Spotlight On Our Volunteers: Ed

Continuing the introductions on some of our fabulous volunteers, we asked Ed to tell us his thoughts about his volunteering at Pen Y Bryn. Ed travels all the way from Chippenham to volunteer and gets stuck in with a lot of the manual jobs that are so important at the sanctuary – creating new enclosures, fencing, refurbishing aviaries, weather-proofing hutches, in fact Ed will cheerily put his energies into any job that he is requested to get involved with.

Ed says of his time with us:

‘I love volunteering because I fervently believe all animals should be treated with love and respect, and I am grateful for being able to play a part in helping to enrich their lives in whatever way I can.  I hope to work more closely with animals in the future, and this gives me valuable experience of learning about the many aspects involved in caring for them. Pete is a dear friend who does amazing work and I am privileged to be able to support him with it.

All animals have their own character and personality and it is fascinating to get to know them all. Whilst all of them are amazing in their own ways, I confess to having a particular soft spot for the turkeys who are gentle, affectionate creatures, and also for the cheeky antics of Cecil the ram.

Its hard to pick a favourite memory as everything I do there is so rewarding, but being able to help feed the animals is definitely a highlight, as having the chance to provide for them directly is a wonderful feeling.  I also love the banter and sense of accomplishment when working with Pete on a project together’

Ed, we love your wonderful energy and positivity, thank you for making such efforts for us!
