This summer we have had an influx of new residents at Pen Y Bryn from disabled herring gulls to guinea pigs to chickens to puppies to lovebirds to Pete the Peacock.
Unfortunately we can’t take in every animal that is offered to us, though of course we wish we could, but we always do our best. We have very firm principles and rules that we abide by when considering accepting new residents – the most important consideration to make is whether the welfare of the animals already in our care would be impacted by any new arrivals. Those that are with us always take priority and if their welfare would be impacted then we always have to turn away the new comer. We then have to ask ourselves three very important questions – do we have the finances for the new arrival, do we have the time and do we have the space. If we say ‘no’ to any of these questions then we have to turn down the request, but if the answers are yes AND our present animals are not going to be impacted negatively then we are only too happy to make any new arrangements to welcome the new-comer and add them to our sanctuary family.
